Ricardo joined our legal team in October 2020, as Senior Associate and Director of our Litigation & Arbitration Department as well as our Regulatory Law Department.
He has focused his legal practice in Commercial and Civil Law, Administrative, Maritime and Admiralty Litigation, Arbitration proceedings, Family and Criminal law.
Ricardo has also developed solid expertise in Regulatory Law providing assistance and guidance to clients within the telecommunications, environment and insurance sectors as well as data protection regulations.
Ricardo´s expertise in litigation allows us to provide advice and assistance to clients in a wide range of local and international disputes related to corporate, commercial, civil, and trademark matters, in addition to shipping litigation and administrative cases.
Ricardo possesses proven experience representing clients before the Civil and Criminal Courts, as well as the Maritime Courts of Panama and different arbitration centers. Ricardo´s specialization in Litigation and Dispute Resolutions enables our clients to take advantage of different Alternative Dispute Resolution methods such as mediation and conciliation, essentially negotiating and avoiding clients unnecessary contingencies and risks while also being more expedite and cost-effective.
Our newest Senior Associate has built up a solid reputation in Regulatory Law, representing leading companies in the telecommunications sector. He regularly provides advice and day-to-day assistance to clients in connection with establishing operations in Panama and securing applicable licenses, permits and approvals from the Panamanian Regulatory Authorities.
He holds an LL.M. Concentrated in Litigation and Dispute Resolution (where he was recognized as a Thomas Buergenthal Scholar) from The George Washington University LawSchool, Washington D.C., USA (2017). Ricardo graduated in Law and Political Science with honors at the Santa Maria La Antigua Catholic University of Panama (2010), during which he participated in an Exchange Program for Outstanding Students with high academic GPA of La Pontifice Universidad Catolica de Argentina in Buenos Aires (2009).
Ricardo has also completed Postgraduate Studies and Certifications in: Probative Law (Universidad Latina de Panama), Cyber-crime and Computer forensics (Universidad Latina de Panama), Data Protection Regulations (Florida State University), Arbitration under the CeCap Center Rules (CECAP), Training for Arbitrators and Secretaries under the CESCON Center rules (Universidad de Panama), Rules for the Taking of Evidence in International Arbitration under the IBA and American Law of International Arbitration (YAG- CESCON), Maritime Arbitration in Panama (CECOMAP), Conventions and International Maritime Codes & Technical Certificates (APADEMAR/Intermaritime Certification Services), Procedural and Evidentiary Law for Civil Oral Litigation (DDOJA).
Ricardo is the Founder, shareholder, and member of the legal committee of Club Deportivo Universitario, a professional soccer club in the first division of the Panamanian Soccer League (LPF); Member of the Panama Bar Association; the Panamanian Maritime Law Association (APADEMAR); Vice-president of the Young Arbitrators Group, YAG-CESCON; and Member of the Spanish Arbitration Club.
